On Saturday I hooked up with Bobby to find some climbing in Croydon, a large town in the south of London.

Croydon is a strange place. It feels like it has been under continuous redevelopment forever. As we wandered, we discovered an arts community project that was trying to encourage people to make better use of its various dead spaces. It didn’t seem to be drawing much interest.

There’s plenty of 1960s/70s architecture mixed in with shinier stuff from the 80s and 90s, all cobbled together in a seemingly haphazard manner, split by a massive dual carriageway and riddled with subways. Slightly progressive architecture sits right alongside terraced houses and the sheer density of concrete makes for some interesting parkour and buildering opportunities.

More to follow in due course. Planning a return visit very soon.
